OUR CULTURE | The Tevebaugh Architecture studio is a collaborative team comprised of individual leaders with unique talents. We strive to make a meaningful impact by using our talents to continually seek improvement for ourselves, our studio, our community, and our clients. Our collaborative leadership approach means we’re always looking to grow as individuals and a business, learning from each other and our clients in our pursuit of innovative and successful solutions.

Design Process

Our studio’s collaborative leadership culture creates the fundamental framework for our design process. Creativity is routed in collaborative solutions, whether it is a collaboration with our studio partners, our clients, our consultant experts, or contractors. Effective and innovative design solutions are the result of iteration, conversation, expertise, and research.

We begin that process in the pre-design phase with discovery and precedent study. We seek out the technical requirements of the project, we develop a strong project framework, and we collaborate with our project team members to develop a powerful and effective basis of design.

Our basis of design serves as the foundation for decision-making, from schematic design to the ribbon-cutting, it’s the framework for our project’s success. Each member of the studio plays a critical role in serving as a leader in the development and implementation of each basis of design.

Studio

Our collaborative leadership culture continually evolves from our experience with a diverse client base and broad areas of expertise. Each new opportunity brings with it a unique experience for the studio team, who strive as individuals and a team to make a meaningful impact through our work.

The Wilmington office is an open studio environment designed to provide daylighting for each member of the studio out to the pristine views of the Alapocas State Park and the Brandywine River. The success of our studio work is built upon each individual contributing their own leadership in the pursuit of meaningful design solutions for our clients. That means you can often find a small group of us huddled over a design problem at a desk, or working through a planning session together in one of the conference rooms.

That collaborative concept continues with our studio in Center City Philadelphia where we also enjoy the vibrancy and energy of our neighbors in the 1776 Co-working Studio. The Tevebaugh teams in Philadelphia and Wilmington connect on a weekly basis for collaborative work planning solutions on Monday morning.

We get together on a monthly basis for our regular social events that include our annual BBQ on the Brandywine, our Holiday party, and our regular social events with the other design professionals in throughout the Wilmington office building.

Careers

Our office thrives in an open, interactive studio environment. We rely heavily on collaboration and interaction to successfully respond to the most challenging design problems. We encourage growth from within the firm by continuing to challenge and mentor each other. Part of our success in retaining long term talent is derived from the development of our competitive and unique benefits structure, which includes flexible paid time off, paid holidays, recruitment bonuses, professional enrichment and development stipends, licensure exam fee reimbursement and additional paid time off for taking licensure exams.

History

James Tevebaugh, AIA and Richard Stratford founded Tevebaugh Associates, Inc. in 1987. Our first office was located in the heart of Wilmington, just a few minutes from our current location on the scenic Brandywine River. The firm’s early years created a strong portfolio of Master Planning work that created a foundation for several high-profile projects that define the Wilmington skyline to this day.
The prominent fourteen story 220,000sf Chase Manhattan Bank is the doorway from the I-95 corridor to downtown Wilmington. The Tevebaugh-led renovation of a historic 40,000sf riverfront warehouse was the introduction of ING Direct Bank to the United States banking industry, as well as a critical milestone in the re-development of the Wilmington Riverfront that continues to thrive today.

Our portfolio of contributions to higher education campus planning and facility design includes Widener University’s Chester Campus, Neuman University’s Aston Campus, and the important cornerstone of the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus: The College of Health Sciences.

In 2015, as the practice began our preparations for a 30-year anniversary, a leadership and ownership transition also began. The founders of Tevebaugh Associates, Jim Tevebaugh and Rick Stratford retired and principals Bill Lenihan, Sean Goodrick, and Shawn Crowley transitioned to executive leadership roles in the business. This strategic transition included a name change to Tevebaugh Architecture, with a focus on building upon the foundation of the Tevebaugh name, and highlighting our core identity as leaders in the architectural design community.
Over three decades of work, our portfolio grew in unison with our healthcare clients throughout the mid-Atlantic region and the Tevebaugh team lead important growth projects with Christiana Care, Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, Jefferson Health, and Union Hospital.
