B&O Station Restoration for ING Direct Offices

This nearly-destroyed Water Street passenger train station, part of the historic Frank Furness-designed Victorian complex, was about to collapse prior to being renovated as an ING DIRECT banking location. The historic structure was re-clad in red brick & a Pennsylvania slate roof while new doors, windows and decorative trim boards were added in keeping with the original Furness design.

Due to highway improvements around the building that left it in a hole, the first floor level was raised two feet to give the building a proper and stable setting. The interior was outfitted with conference areas and restrooms on the first floor, and offices and workstations on the second floor.

The station master ticket window, first floor waiting room, and Victorian fireplaces with tile hearths at each end of the building, were preserved during the renovation as was the wooden grand stair tower that connected the floors.
