Delaware Technical Community College’s Orlando J. George, Jr. Campus in Wilmington now features a new Allied Health Center of Excellence, resulting from a $22 million renovation of the 25-year-old Southeast Building. This project focused on expanding state-of-the-art laboratory space for existing allied health programs and introducing paramedic and surgical technology degree programs to the Wilmington campus.

The 75,000-square-foot Allied Health Center of Excellence includes new classrooms, labs, and collaborative spaces. An updated conference center with high-tech audiovisual equipment was also part of the renovation. The center provides resources for graduates seeking continuing education credits.

Programs located at the Allied Health Center of Excellence include Cardiovascular Sonography, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic, Histotechnician (new lab), Medical Assistant (two new labs), Nuclear Medicine, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, and Surgical Technology.

The renovation aimed to create an innovative, state-of-the-art Allied Health Center of Excellence (AHCOE) for the campus’s health programs. The project involved over 75,000 square feet of renovations to classrooms, science and simulation labs, student lounges, and the main conference center. Medical equipment planning and procurement, IT/AV upgrades, and updated furniture and finishes were incorporated throughout the facility to enhance health sciences education.
